We’ve heard a lot about “fake news” these past few years. Some of us have heard the phrase uttered so often that we want to roll our eyes and cover our ears.
Fake news? Again? Does a single day pass when that phrase isn’t tossed around?
The answer, sadly, is “No,” and with good cause.
Fake news has become an epidemic — a sickness that has infected our news organizations — popping up on our TV screens, cellphones, newspapers and social media apps with increasing regularity.
With the abrupt about-face prompted by newly reported video evidence of the Nick Sandmann / Nathan Phillips /Black Hebrew Israelites encounter that recently took place, the huge shift in the story that came after this more comprehensive video surfaced, an entirely different picture has emerged. Showing once again, we’ve been spoon fed fake news.
The two groups previously painted by the media as “victims” were, according to newly released video evidence, the instigators, revealing Nick Sandmann and his classmates as the true victims in this case.
In other words, several news reports had it completely wrong — an indication that some investigative reporters fail to actually “investigate” these days.
New video reveals that teen Nick Sandmann and his classmates were not just victims of an apparent unprovoked act of intimidation by Phillips, they were also the ones on the receiving end of threatening racial slurs made by apparent members of the Black Hebrew Israelites. And worse still, they became victims of an increasingly irresponsible news media with journalists painting an ugly and innaccurate picture of the young Catholic high school teen and his classmates, leaving these young Americans vulnerable to death threats and scorn from an entire nation.
We have all witnessed the deliberately deceptive practices conducted by some of today’s previously trusted news organizations. Will we take a stand against these irresponsible broadcasts and articles, where innocents are now tried and condemned by the news media before all the facts are in? Is it time to turn off such news stations and look elsewhere for the truth?
This same type of underhanded reporting on President Trump goes on daily. And those who fail to investigate these stories are left believing the lie, passing along the lies to others. And left angry.
The same type of selective video redacting has been used to vilify our President
The same distorting of facts.
The same outright lies.
What they did to Nick Sandmann – the Kentucky teen from Covington Catholic High School who was likely targeted for wearing a MAGA hat while outside with his classmates, has become the norm for many so-called journalists.
Though it’s only one of countless many, this story should remove any doubt as to the abusive power of the fake news machine, and the gullibility of those who still trust such news organizations.
When video is deliberately taken so out of context as to make an innocent teen waiting for the bus with his classmates look like a monster, our news has a problem with credibility.
A huge problem.
When such deception is published and discussed on the daily “news,” we tend to believe the lies and naively take them at face value as we sit safely in our homes, while the victims of these lies receive death threats, ridicule, with calls for expulsion and reprimands and worse on Twitter, Facebook, and in general conversation that takes place in restaurants and workplaces around the country.
Just as those who raced to publish the first deceptive video of Nick Sandmann’s face to face with Nathan Phillips, those who reported on the Trump rallies, expertly redacted video to misrepresent the facts, choosing instead to deliberately distort then-candidate’s Trump’s words. And they continue doing so to this day.
As it was with Nick Sandmann, even with witnesses there taking their own cellphone video of the events, increasing the likelihood that the news media’s lies would be exposed, the news media blatantly misled the public by distorting the facts. By distorting the truth!
Deliberately.
Let that sink in.
Our current US President has dealt with this treachery for the last few years. He’s an adult. Being an adult doesn’t make irresponsible and deceptive journalism right or acceptible, even for those who choose to make themselves open to public review.
Nick Sandmann, however, a young high school teen, did not make that choice. He, along with his family, have received DEATH threats because someone made the conscious decision to take video out of context, apparently expecting to brand this teen in front of the entire world as a racist and an agitator. The news media blasted it across the nation, irresponsibly, and obviously without due diligence.
Imagine how this young teen’s life would be had no other video surfaced to clear him from these false allegations. Imagine if he were your son or brother. Had no one come forward with the additional video evidence that proved his innocence, evil would have triumphed, the fake news would have won another one, and Nick Sandmann’s life would have been forever ruined.
