A Stand For The Republic
(Concerning the Confirmation Hearings of Brett Kavanaugh)
OK liberals, I understand what you are doing. Politics is a power surge to you. The more you are electrified, the greater your power is over the rest of us, your life’s work validated, and oh, the satisfaction that exudes from your aura as the deplorable’s of society beg at your feet for crumbs.
So here we find ourselves watching as the most recent example unfolds in the halls of the Judiciary Committee. You don’t need to explain. Some deplorable’s are a bit savvier than we let on.
Here is what we know:
You think Conservatives stole a Supreme Court seat from you in 2017 when Merrick Garland was nominated by Barack Obama after the sudden and unexpected death of Antonin Scalia. So, you “gave” us Neil Gorsuch in order to have time to plan your diabolical skullduggery which came in the form of the historically usual form, an ancient just recently planted pseudo-psychologically cultivated memory.
But then you had enough time to make your grand scheme timed perfectly, right? Hold that letter until the best opportune time to disallow the Conservatives to bring a vote. Well it certainly proves one thing. You despise us deplorable’s so much that you allow yourselves not to recognize the depth of our understanding of what we are as a nation, more specifically, as a people.
We are a republic, not a democracy and certainly that is not the narrow understanding of the term as it applies to the Electoral College, which by the way you despise. In Federalist Paper No. 10, James Madison wanted to prevent rule by majority faction, saying,
“Measures are too often decided, not according to the rules of justice and the rights of the minor party, but by the superior force of an interested and overbearing majority.”
James Madison
John Adams warned in a letter,
“Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”
John Adams
Edmund Randolph said,
“That in tracing these evils to their origin, every man had found it in the turbulence and follies of democracy.”
Edmund Randolph
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed,
“Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”
John Marshall
But ya’all love chaos, (a little deplorable redneck lingo there if ya don’t mind). But here is the real deal. The Merrick Garland dismissal was the action of a republic. When a Supreme Court Justice decides to retire, certainly in most cases, it is calculated and timed to afford the most aliened president with that judges’ political leanings to put forward the new nominee.
That’s understood and acceptable. STOP! That’s not what happened is it? It was at the end of a presidential second term and remember, we are a republic. Our Founders did not believe that the people have a right to enact whatever laws the majority necessarily want, but rather, that the people have a right to enact whatever laws the people as a whole think are just. That means “The People” also get to decide who interprets those laws and who sits in arbitration of their disagreements and the decision of who, when it comes to the highest court in the land, rests with the duly elected president.
That is not left to ill-fated timing. As an also duly elected president is packing his belongings and heading for the door, “the people” are going to be more than just minimally interested in the country’s direction once that guy (or someday I hope gal) gets out on Pennsylvania Avenue.
He may be heading south, and we just may want to head north and not at all interested how his thoughts might tend to steer us where we don’t want to go. We are able to judge his eight years, though eight months are left in his second term. We may love him to death and choose his replacement to continue what “he has built”.
But we believed what he built was not our desire to continue and wanted to follow a new path, completely, due north, not north east. We followed the ideas built into the Constitution and followed page after page of Federalist opining’s.
We are a republic and as such we wanted our say as a “deplorable” people. Liberals hate a republic and at every turn have taken each opportunity to restrict the moves this new “detestable” president has taken to move back to freedom and liberty. In some cases, we disagree with his moves but because of your hate and attempted blocking of every move back by him, we accept his short comings to stick back in your face your dismissal and hate for us.
Here we find ourselves at this example, one more of so many. You want to lead US through the pig wallow, out through the barn to the manure pit. We are standing right there listening to you explain why we ought to walk right through that with you. I say you’re full of it, and it shows by your actions, inside and out.
