Confirmed cases in LA County nowhere near correct? What does that mean for the rest of the US?
As antibody testing becomes more prevalent, the numbers are found to be much larger than thought.
As more antibody tests become available, the number of people infected is much larger than formerly reported. “The estimated infection numbers are 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed COVID-19 cases L.A. County had reported at the time of the study in early April.” These numbers mean that everything we thought we knew about this virus, from how long it has been in the US to the information in the models to the day to day ways we are attempting to flatten the curve, has been incomplete and inaccurate.
These numbers also show a far different picture of the death rate of Covie-19. Far more people have survived than the models and experts thought would once infected. It seems like the strategies implemented throughout the United States need to be looked at, reevaluated, and modified. Hopefully, this means that the parts of the country that are starting to reopen are on the right track. Time will tell.
