Green Needle, Rainstorm; How Amazing Is The Human Mind

“You will only hear the word you’re reading.”

We are not sure who created this sound experiment, but I found it incredibly intriguing. If you click the play button below, you will hear a sound being played, following the initial sound, you will hear a computer voice say one of the following words:

Green Needle“, or “RainstormDepending on which word you are reading at the time.

But believe it or not a computer is not reading your mind, nor is your camera being activated to figure out where your eyes are looking. This is actually just your mind playing tricks on you. Whatever word you are thinking about at the time; is the word your brain will hear entering into your ears. This is an incredible expirement of the mind itself. Try it, ?You wont believe your ears! ??

Green Needle

Rainstorm

It is incredible to me, just how easy it is to trick someone’s brain into believing they have heard one thing, when someone else can clearly hear another.

Is this the science behind subliminal messages? Imagine how easy it is for someone to hear the wrong thing; depending on what things are around someone, or what may be on their minds while they’re listening to you. How easy it is to misunderstand someone and absolutely believe what you think you heard is true, when in fact, it was something completely different.

Which is why it is so important to get all the facts, to keep an open mind about what you “know” you’ve heard, because you may be completly wrong. You should never take something at face value. You should get all sides and all facts before you form an opinion.

Not too long ago there was an argument about the first words spoken on the moon, feminists were up in arms over “That’s one small step for a man…” because they refused to believe that he said the “a” before the word “man.” Believing instead, that he said “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” This caused many online wars over a single vowel sound…Which do you remember hearing?

This expirement has been shared all over the internet with a few variations, we found some with the word “Brainstorm” instead of Rainstorm, which is intriguing to play around with, just to see if you can hear the hard “B” sound or if it remains an R sound, depending on which you are thinking about at the time.

Here is a little of the science behind this phenomenon, Take a Look ‘??’

In an article By Brooklyn Neustaeter a writer at CTVNews.ca, she found some answers for us…

Jessamyn Schertz, an assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Linguistics, told CTVNews.ca in an email that what an individual hears can change depending on which word is being read on the screen and therefore being thought about.

“Each time a word is spoken, the physical properties of the sound that is produced are very different –this is due to physiological differences between different talkers, or different speech styles, and different listening environments,” Schertz said Thursday.

“All of this variation means that there is not a unique ‘signature’ that defines a given word, but that there’s a wide range of possible sounds matching a word,” she added.

Explaining the auditory illusion, Schertz said one’s mind can make a quick switch between the words by thinking about the second phrase while listening to the audio file, causing the ears and brain to latch on to the second perceived acoustic pattern despite previously hearing the first word.”

Humans are so used to listening to speech that it seems easy and effortless, but actually, reconstructing someone’s message from the sounds we hear is an extremely complex task,” Schertz said.

“Just by looking at a word — or even by closing your eyes and imagining a word — that influences the way we hear the exact same sound.”

What do you hear? Why a resurfaced audio illusion is dividing the internet again

As a resurfaced audio clip that can be heard as two different words divides social media users once again, an expert says whether someone hears ‘brainstorm’ or ‘green needle’ changes depending on which word they think about.
