Should we be on alert in regards to those that eat bats?
Since Covid-19 is believed to have started in animals and passed to humans, should we, here in the United States, put safeguards against the spread of another virus? What safeguards can we put in place? When dealing with the import of goods and the travel of persons from areas that include bats in their diets, how far can/should we go to protect ourselves and our country?
Of course, we are in no way advocating for racism, xenophobia, or any other such nonsense. We are just asking what can we do? What should we do?
This article highlights this problem. It says, “It’s believed that “thousands of coronaviruses––many of which have yet to be discovered—are present in bats,” and “Additional studies will be needed to determine if these newly discovered coronaviruses have “the potential for transmission across species to better understand the risks to human health.”
If humans are at risk, this seems like the potential for HUGE problems around the world.
